Many of us can remember the sleeper sofa our parents and Grandparents had in their home. Many times it was placed out of sight in a family room, or basement where the children would play. The pattern design was often an ugly print of large flowers, the cushions were very firm, and the pull out bed reminded us of sleeping on a cot at camp with the feeling the springs poking us in the back with each movement. It served the one purpose, and that was extra sleeping space for the unexpected guest. Thankfully those days are gone; the manufacturers of the sleeper sofas have redesigned it for more style and comfort, making it more appealing to the consumer who is in the market for new furniture.

Today the sleeper sofa mattress is more appealing to the consumer offering more modern materials of micro suede, leather, faux leather, foam, rattan, and wicker. The sizes are not limited to the old style couch, now we can choose from the couch, love seat, and chair style. Each is designed to accommodate any room decor from modern to contemporary.

The mattresses that are standard with most pull out beds are the coil type. These are very undesirable as they will give out on the support after a few nights sleep. Today, you have the option of upgrading to a better quality mattress. There are several types of queen sleeper sofa mattresses available and they are: Memory foam, air, urethane, innerspring, and latex. Depending on how much the pull out bed will be used, will determine which type of mattress you will want to purchase.

Memory Foam

If you and your spouse are planning on using this pull out bed as your main bed, and have back problems, you may want to go with the memory foam sofa sleeper. This mattress is designed to conform to your body eliminating pressure point problems, resists motion, and adjusts to body temperatures.

Air Mattress

The air mattress is designed to be inflated or deflated to control firmness. The plus side of this type of mattress is the option to adjust air pressure; the downside is you need to deflate the mattress before you fold the pull out bed back into the couch, and the risk of puncture holes, leakage, and repair.

Urethane Mattress

The urethane mattress is suitable when it comes to cushioning the support brackets, but the comfort you will be looking for is not supplied with this mattress. This is when you will be more satisfied with the latex mattress.

Latex Mattress

The latex mattress being hypo-allergenic is more desirable for most people who are concerned with dust mites and allergies. This mattress does cost more then the others but it will give you less sagging, and more support.

The sleeper sofa is a smart choice for people who live in a smaller house, apartment, or a dormitory who need both a couch and bed, but have the space for only one. The cost of this furniture is affordable starting as low as $199 on up to $500 making it a smart choice for dual needs.
