Plastic Storage Boxes
66Have a clutter problem? Try plastic storage boxes. You can put some cardboard files in so you can organize your bills, receipts, or important warranty instructions. The most serious thing is not to leave papers all over the house. Did you ever notice how flat surfaces collect things? Mail, some opened, some not, scissors, even a dog toy. Somebody will get to it later? Do they? Organization is very important in today’s society as we are busier than ever. If every tool, toy, receipt and scrap booking project has a home it will make it easier to find them when you need them. Containers come in different colors and sizes. You can make a fun project for kids to put their toys away. Billy has a blue bin. Sally has a pink one. This makes the challenge of cleaning up after kids much easier. They have their own lid that fits right on the top. A great tip that helped me with my kids is taking pictures of the contents of the Rubbermaid plastic storage boxes and gluing it to the outside. This will make it really simple to find things when you need to, also to know which box they belong in. Sometimes you can even get handles.
When you're putting books in large plastic storage boxes be careful not to put too many in. Books are extremely heavy. These boxes can be great for storing heavy things but once you need to relocate it then you will need to remove all of the contents. You should consider this before you spend a lot of time packing the boxes. Be careful when you're lifting the heavy bins don't hurt your back. Always bend your knees when you pick something up. If you need help, ask for it or hire a handyman.
Occasionally these containers go on sale. You can spend $5.00 on clear plastic storage boxes at Home Depot and the following week find out they have brought the price back up to $19.99. If you're buying six bins at $5.00 you could be saving a whopping $90.00. That's a week's worth of groceries. Buy smart. This will make you feel good about yourself and motivate you to continue to organize.
Another terrific thing about big containers is you can always store them and stack them. Do you really need all your winter coats hanging in the closet when it's 90 degrees out? It might help to buy a label maker. However it is easy enough to find labels in a Staples or Office Depot. They shouldn't cost more than $4.00 for a pack of 10. Sharpies are one of the best ways to mark these boxes for organization.. Sharpies' ink stays and doesn't smudge.
Once your boxes are labeled they need a home themselves. What is your plan? Do not pack them up and leave them in a storage room. Remember renting them can be very expensive. Did you know when nobody picks up their items or stops paying the bills on the storage rental they auction your Storage room off? How would you like to have to bid on your own stuff? Wherever you decide to store your belongings make sure you keep track of them.
There are small plastic storage boxes that you can use as well to organize. These are great for shoes. Take a picture of the shoes and stick them in the box. That way you never have to go digging on the floor of your closet for them. Pretty baskets can be great as well. You can fold sweaters in them or keep magazines in a basket. Just remember you don't have to save everything. Feel free to give clothes that no longer fit you away to a thrift shop. The Salvation Army will come to pick up your donation and you get a tax reduction. That's a winning situation for you and whoever gets your old belongings. If you just spend 15 minutes a day putting things away your clutter problem will be solved.
