Overhead Garage Storage

Overhead garage storage can be used for many things. The main reason that it used, is for the storage of items that have to do with the garages and cars. You might store items that you might need to keep handy like car repair equipment and other types of handyman tools. But overhead garage storage racks can be used for many other types of storage as well. If you keep a nice clean garage, you will find that the garage can provide you with as much additional storage as a paid storage space that you could rent from a professional storage company. Your space will not be all concentrated in one spot though. The space will be spread all around different spaces in your garage. One primary space for this will be your overhead storage shelves.

There are quite a few ways that you can build and install this type of overhead storage. If you have the money to have it built by a professional carpenter, then you can just have someone build a storage unit that fits your garage and meets your storage needs. You should probably have the unit painted with a form of industrial and water proof paint in a nice bright and vibrant color. A nice garage cabinet color is a bright royal blue or a bright red. It creates a nice contrast to the stark grey that most garages have because of the concrete. If these colors are just way too bright for you, consider painting your cabinets in white. This is a nice fresh contrasting color, but it still remains conservative. The only drawback is that if your car gives off a lot of exhaust, you may have to repaint your cabinets every year because the cabinets can become dirty looking with soot.

If you cannot afford to pay a professional to build and install your cabinets, you can purchase pre-made cabinets that are in the approximate size that you will need. You can purchase cabinets that are made of wood and pay someone to install them or you can try your hand at installing them yourself. This is not recommended unless you are an expert at what you are doing. You should at least have some experience. If you have no experience installing cabinets and no money to install them, then you might want to consider mounting plastic cabinets. You can choose coordinating fashion colors and you do not have to have a lot of technical know how to install plastic cabinets.

Some cabinets like this will come with their own easy to install kit. This type of kit is usually easy to install for anyone who wants to. As long as you are willing to follow simple directions and take your time, you can install your own overhead garage storage systems. If you cannot find any cabinets that are meant to be installed in a garage and that have a storage installation kit already included in the package, then you might want to go ahead and purchase the plastic cabinets you would like to mount. Make sure the back of the cabinet is flush so that you can mount it. Then you can purchase some of the putty that bonds on all surfaces and holds heavy pounds of weight. Install a good amount of putty on every corner and in the center of your cabinet and hang your overhead garage storage. This will allow you to free up much needed space for your cars or lawn equipment, and a much better option than renting storage units.
